Over the past fifteen years, there has been a significant increase in the diabetes prevalence rate in Canada where health issues such as cardiovascular disease, peripheral neuropathy, kidney disease, and retinopathy pose a threat (Desroches et al., 2021). To assist healthcare professionals and patients in avoiding the consequences associated with diabetes, it is important for Canadian knowledge translation tools to be pinpointed given the increased prevalence rate (Desroches et al., 2021). From an environmental scan in the peer-reviewed literature, it was found that in the Canadian context, the consequences linked to diabetes could be avoided among healthcare professionals and patients through 31 interactive knowledge translation tools (Desroches et al., 2021). The authors provide a definition of knowledge translation and background information on the different formats associated with interactive knowledge translation tools (i.e., interactive case study) to increase reader knowledge and provide context. The authors include tools from disease-specific health organizations (i.e., Diabetes Canada) and a peer-reviewed publication to ensure credible information, but do not consider all tools used in clinical settings such as hospitals thereby limiting the scope of information (Desroches et al., 2021). To provide focused research and ensure specificity, the authors included tools implemented and/or used in Canada, and tools revised or developed during 2013 and after to ensure up-to-date information (Desroches et al., 2021). The authors include knowledge translation tools only written in French or English thereby limiting the scope of information, where cultural access may be restricted due to only 2 tools having French translation (Desroches et al., 2021). Background statistics on the percentages of healthcare professionals and patients who currently use various knowledge translation tools within Canada, and community success stories associated with these tools would increase reader understanding of the reach and impact.
