Get To Know Me
My Background
My full name is Kristina Chenel Phalloo, and I am 28 years old. I live in Mississauga, ON. I enjoy cooking, baking, jogging, hiking, watching movies, and reading. I am a hard worker with excellent communication skills. I work well in teams and am highly adaptable. I am highly flexible and always looking for ways to improve myself both professionally and personally. I have just started my first semester in the Master of Health Studies Program at Athabasca University. I am loving the experience so far, and I am looking forward to working within the field of health upon graduation.

Positionality
Hello All! My name is Kristina Phalloo, I am 28 years old, and my first language is English, I am an able-bodied woman, my pronouns are she and her, and I am a cis-gendered, heterosexual female.
I was born in Canada, and currently live in Mississauga, Ontario, but I am of a West Indian background as my parents were both born in Trinidad and Tobago located within the Caribbean.
I possess a bachelor’s degree in Public Health.
I am currently unemployed but never deprived of basic needs, (health needs included) as I live in a dual-income household, where my parents both earn suitable incomes above the poverty level, which are used to support my needs.
These are some characteristics and accomplishments granting me privilege and advantage in society by placing me on the top of the coin in Nixon’s coin model illustration outlining inequality and social structure (Nixon, 2019). Being a female of colour places me on the bottom of the racism coin, granting me unearned oppression and disadvantage in society (Nixon, 2019). During my younger years, I experienced this discrimination first-hand, and this has led me to understand the role of race in society. On a positive note, I feel grateful to live in a country such as Canada where freedom is available, and equality is strived for and favored each and every day.

I am currently not a health professional, but desire to work as a Public Health Educator for a hospital or public health department.
This e-portfolio defines who I am, whom I want to be, the profession I want to achieve, and outlines what I have done. In this MHS program, I will be creating different works to put into this e-portfolio. Public health information and healthcare legislation are provided under the Links and Resources tab for your reference. This portfolio is used to share with potential employers, public health departments and organizations within the healthcare sector and beyond. This e-portfolio has helped me to adapt to different technologies and programs such as Wix, which was used to make this website.
